2017 ACT Major Events

While there will be no major carnivals staged in the ACT during 2017, there will be a number of high quality events throughout the year in the region, while the Australian 3-Days will be held in nearby Wagga Wagga over Queen’s Birthday weekend in June.  The major ACT events for 2017 are listed below.

The Autumn Classics will open the 2017 ACT League with the: 

  • ACT Sprint Distance Championships at Red Hill and Canberra Girls Grammar School on 25 March ACT League # 1, and
  • ACT Middle Distance Championships at Orroral Tracking Station, Namadgi National Park on 26 March ACT League # 2.

The 2017 Jim Sawkins Classic will be run the Ratall Creek map on 4 June will be an excellent lead up to the Australian 3-Days ACT League # 6.

The 2017 Winter Classics will include: 

  • the 2017 Australian Ultra-Long Championships at Gibraltar Hill on 26 August ACT League # 9, and
  • a Sprint Distance National Orienteering League event at the southern end of Aranda Bushlands that will be open to other competitors on 27 August ACT League # 10.

The season will end with the 2017 ACT Long Distance Championships at Glendale Namadgi National Park on 17 September ACT League # 11.  This will be a week before the Australian Championships Carnival in the Bathurst-Orange region.
