COURSE SETTER'S NOTES:
The Map is a mix of fast open and slow green, with not a lot in between. Since the map was done the green areas have expanded into the open areas. Full length clothing is recommended. There are a lot of short sections of track on the map. Some are less obvious than others and shouldn't be depended on for navigation. A beautiful valley in beautiful autumn weather. Great for a day out!
STARTS:
Between 10:00 and 12:00.
The start is 900m from the assembly area and 400m - 700 m from the parking.
COURSE CLOSURE:
Courses close at 14:00 (2:00pm). You must report to the finish by 14:00, whether you have finished your course or not.
DIRECTIONS & INFORMATION:
Drive to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve via either Cotter or Point Hut Crossing. Allow 45 mins from central Canberra.
Nature Reserve entry fee is PER VEHICLE for one day: $15.53 / $9.32 senior/concession. CARD ONLY. If you wish to reduce costs, you can meet other orienteers at the entry car park and combine passengers into 1 vehicle. From the visitor centre, follow the main road into Tidbinbilla for 1 km and take the right turn towards the Nature Discovery Playground. Follow the road for about 700 m to parking and the assembly area.
Walk from Carparks to the Start is 400 - 700 metres. Toilets are between the carparks and the start. BBQ’s, zip line, slippery dip and playground are all adjacent to the finish, so why not make a day of it and enjoy the reserve before and/or after your run.
As Orienteering ACT has a policy of all competitors carrying a whistle, this will be checked at the start. PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE CARRYING A WHISTLE.
CAKE STALL:
Blue Lightning is running a fund raising cake stall. Please support them and bring CASH for this as there is no phone reception at the arena.
