ENTRIES:

Pre-entry only. Entries close 12pm (noon) Thursday 29 April. This is not a joke – NO late entries and NO Enter on the Day.

COURSES (length, climb):

Hard 1 (9.6km, 420m), Hard 2 (8.4km, 310m), Hard 3 (6.4km, 250m), Hard 4 (4.4km, 200m), Hard 5 (2.8km, 90m), Moderate 1 (4.4km, 140m), Moderate 2 (3.2km, 100m), Easy (2.7km, 65m), Very Easy (1.8km, 50m).

COURSE SETTER'S NOTES:

The Mount Clear map has a diverse and interesting range of granite terrain that burnt during the 2019-20 bushfire season. Flat sections are generally quite runnable with good visibility whilst steep and rocky areas are much slower and more affected by regrowth. The vegetation on the map has been updated using recent LIDAR, however features such as termite mounds have not been fully updated and may not be mapped if they are outside a control circle. The boulder field symbol (a scalene triangle) is often used to represent quite large collections of boulders, sometimes upwards of 3m tall which are much more obvious in the terrain than their size on the map would suggest.

Leg protection is highly recommended as several areas have large numbers of thistles and grass seeds.

The easy and very easy courses start and finish near the parking and assembly, however participants on these courses are advised not to wear their best shoes (and potentially bring a change of clothes) as they will likely get wet feet crossing the creek.

For all moderate and hard courses, there is a 1.2km walk along fire trail from the parking/assembly to the start and finish of these courses, to ensure maximal time in the interesting terrain. The hard 1-4 courses have significant climb to reach the most interesting parts of the map, however a shorter hard 5 course with significantly less climb has also been included for participants who would like to avoid the climb.

There is no water on any of the controls, so if you think you will require water please carry it with you.

Participants are advised that the last 12 km of the gravel Boboyan Road are in very poor condition after the recent rain events.

ASSEMBLY:

Mount Clear Pound, Naas Valley Firetrail, off Boboyan Rd, Namadgi National Park (near Mount Clear Campground).

The distance from central Canberra is approximately 80km, allow at least 80 minutes travel time. Parking at the assembly area is limited, please car pool if possible.

From Canberra, travel south to Tharwa village, from Tharwa go south on Naas Road which is sign-posted to Adaminaby. Continue south on Naas Rd, which becomes Boboyan Rd, for 45km. The final 12km is a gravel road and is in very poor condition after the recent rain events. Turn left into the Naas Valley Firetrail (sign-posted Mt Clear campground), then right at the fork towards the day-use parking. Continue through the gate and on a further 500m to park as directed inside the fenced area.

STARTS:

Between 10:00 and 12:00. Queuing starts.

There are two starts and finishes. The Very Easy and Easy courses start and finish adjacent to the parking area. There is a 1.2km walk along a firetrail to the start and finish for moderate and hard courses.

COURSE CLOSURE:

Courses close at 14:00 (2:00pm). You MUST report to the finish by 14:00, whether you have finished your course or not.
