OACT members and event participants are advised that the membership structure, membership fees and event entry fees will be changing in 2023. The reasons for the changes include; an initiative across Orienteering Australia and the States to simplify and standardise the membership structure, increasing costs to conduct our sport, a forecast tightening of grant funding provided to OACT, providing incentives for juniors and widening the gap between members and non-members for event entry fees.
These will be the first changes in membership and event entry fees since the cost of memberships were reduced in 2018. No one likes to see increased fees, however the increases are unavoidable and modest. Orienteering remains one of the cheapest organised sports available in the ACT and our fees for 2023 are similar to the fees to be charged by the other States.
Membership Structure
The simplified and standardised membership structure across OA and the States has only two types of members – Adults and Juniors. All members are to be registered as an individual with the ceasing of Family memberships. OVIC, ONSW, OQLD and OTAS have already implemented the new structure, with OSA and OWA working through the detail. For current OACT Family members this means you will be unable to renew in 2023 as a Family member (but a maximum family fee for event entry will continue to apply – see below). Further details on what you will need to do for renewing memberships in 2023 will be provided in future news articles.
Membership Fees
The membership fees for 2023 are:
- Adults born 2002 and earlier, $65.
- Juniors born 2003-2010 (turning 13 to 20 during 2023), $10.
- Juniors born 2011 and later have free membership.
Event Entry Fees
The event entry fees for 2023 are shown in the tables below. The fees will apply to all series/events that commence in 2023. The 2022 event entry fees will continue to apply for the 2022/23 Wednesday Twilight and the Dec 22 / Jan 23 summer six event short course series.
Season Passes will continue to be offered to OACT members at an attractive reduced rate. OACT members are encouraged to purchase Season Passes, as it eases the effort for event organisers and saves money. Free event entry will continue to be provided to newcomers for their first three events.
