Next week, on 28th May, OACT begins the Midweek lunchtime series. The series is presented for participants to enjoy a time-limited orienteering. Courses are designed to be completed within an hour. There are two courses, a short one and a long one. It’s a more relaxed environment, utilising punch cards instead of SI control systems. Courses are set by beginners or the most experienced. The midweek event is designed for day workers in need of a lunchtime break, retirees, students or anyone who has the time.. This year’s series alternates between Southside and Northside locations. The event starts between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. and finishes at 2:00 p.m. This event series has been running for over 20 years and remains popular among local orienteers.
If you would like to plan a course for an event, please review the course planning sheet and select a site. If you have a preferred site in mind for planning, please get in touch with the office to update the event location.
Narrabundah Hill 28th of May
Just on the edge of the Weston Creek suburb of Duffy is a nature reserve. Pine trees once populated the reserve before the 2003 bushfires, but it is now a mix of open land, eucalypt forest, and segments of replanted pine trees. The nature park is a mega for local bird and animal life. Black Cockatoos, Lorikeets, and Kangaroos are abundant, although the burnt-out forest introduced the blackberries and rough terrain. Luckily for our local mapper, the blackberries have been fully mapped. This allows for orienteers to choose their routes wisely. The isolated pine tree is now marked on the map, introducing another feature to navigate from. The local farmer has let in the Herefords, so there are plenty of cow pads to dodge. LOL
On the 4th of June, is on the Northside at Mt Painter, a course planned by Sir Arthur.
