The following embargoes are now in place for upcoming championship events. Orienteers must not enter embargoed areas without the express written permission of the Orienteering ACT Board and event organiser. For further information please contact the OACT Office.
These embargoes should be interpreted in the context of the Orienteering Australia rules and the International Orienteering Federation Fair Play Principles:
- OA Rule 26.5: “Any attempt to survey or train in the competition terrain is forbidden, unless explicitly permitted by the organiser.”
- IOF Fair Play resolution: “Fair Play in orienteering includes understanding and respecting the wonder of a new challenge to be met and overcome at each competition. Unfair advantage gained through advance knowledge of the terrain, map or course elements can have a significant impact on competitive results and are an attack on the core values of our sport.”

- Embargoes relating to the 2025 ACT Championships:
- The Australian National Botanic Gardens. Applies until 16 March 2025.
Reconnoitring or training within the embargoed area is not permitted.
Other activities in the gardens are not included in this embargo. - Pine Range, Cooma. Applies until 5 April 2025.
Orienteers must not enter the embargoed area. - Highlands. Applies until 6 April 2025.
Orienteers must not enter the embargoed area.
- The Australian National Botanic Gardens. Applies until 16 March 2025.
- Embargoes relating to the 2026 Oceania Championships:
- Bogong Creek. Applies until 27 September 2026.
Orienteers must not enter the embargoed area. - Remembrance Park. Applies from 21 November 2024 until 1 October 2026.
This embargo applies only to prospective competitors and coaches of the 2026 Australian Schools Orienteering Championships.
Orienteers may enter the embargoed area if they remain only on formed tracks and must not carry an orienteering map. - Stromlo Forest Park. Applies until 3 October 2026.
Orienteers may enter the embargoed area if they remain only on formed tracks and must not carry an orienteering map. - Corin Pines. Applies until 4 October 2026.
Orienteers must not enter the embargoed area.
- Bogong Creek. Applies until 27 September 2026.
