Katherine Maundrell Hits a High at Series Break

In recording the fastest corrected km rate for event 8 in 2022-23 Runners Shop Twilight Series at Lake Ginninderra, Katherine Maundrell became the first junior woman to win a race under the OACT age/gender handicap system since Ella Cuthbert won event 2 in 2019-20 Runners Shop Twilight Series at Ginninderra Creek on 30 October 2019. Maundrell joins a select group of young women, including Rebecca Minty, Zoe Melhuish, Heather Harding and Cuthbert to win a race under the handicap conditions.

The placings in the two Moderate courses were:

  • Moderate 1: 4.2 km: 29 controls: Men: 1. Paul de Jongh 19:13, 2. Toby Lang 19:33, 3. Rob Walter 20:28, Women: 1. Katherine Maundrell 26:05, 2. Alice Radajewski 32:56, 3. Mia Kluth 35:34.
  • Moderate 2: 2.9 km: 23 controls: Men: 1. 1. Andrew Hobson 24:09, 2. Thomas Fisher 26:05, 3. Robert Fisher 26:14; Women: 1. Zoe McCrae 27:08, 2. Chris Stocks 27:36, 7. Belinda Allison 27:55.

Maundrell’s time of 26 min 04.44 sec for the 4.2 km Moderate 1 course, which with her age/gender handicap factor 0.6560 converted to a km rate of 6 min 04.44 sec, the fastest for the race. The top 10 on corrected time, which again did not include anyone from the Moderate 2 course, were:

After eight events, with the best five scores to count, Martin Dent has a lead of six points over Shannon Jones, with a further two to David Stocks, then three points to Paul de Jongh and another two points to Rob Walter. The top five placings after eight events are:
