On Sunday, Grant demonstrated he has lost none of his orienteering prowess which enabled him to win a Gold Medal at the World Games 20 years ago, when he won Division 1 of the Jim Sawkins Memorial Handicap held on Stringybark Hill (Jerrabomberra). Bluett was fourth to finish the 9.5 km course, but after the age factor handicaps were applied, he had the fastest kilometre rate of 6 min 24.11 sec, 28 seconds ahead of Matthew Crane. Bluett’s win was his third, having won previously in 2017 and 2020.
Cath Chalmers won Division 2. She was third in 66 min 36 sec on 6.6 km Hard 3, which converted to a corrected km rate of 6 min 56.09 sec, putting her 6.41 sec ahead of the 2018 winner, Ian Prosser, with Eoin Rothery third a further 13 seconds behind Prosser.
