Big Turnout for MTBO #1

More than 70 keen mountain bike orienteers, both advanced orienteers and beginners, came together to start the 2021 ACT MTBO Season at Majura Pines on Sunday.

This was the first ever event in Australia to utilise the new world-standard SI-Air 1.5m range system! Elite rider Michael Reed commented: “The long range SI-Air system is awesome – no need to reach across the body while going past a checkpoint!” The new system truly creates the atmosphere of a major event and is a revolutionary change in how riders make route choice decisions without stopping.

Experienced course setter Cathy Hogg set courses that challenged both technical riding skills and optimal decision making at higher speed. Many beginners, attracted to the event by big ABC publicity thoroughly enjoyed learning the ropes at their first event.

The next MTBO Series event is scheduled for 23 May 2021 at Bruce Ridge, acquire a map board and start training! 🙂
