The Saturday Metro season is now underway, and the Easter 3Days and subsequent events are already part of our orienteering history for the year. Those of us fortunate enough to be able to head west to Perth and Narrogin had a wonderful series of competitions to enjoy. My own competition is best left out of discussion, but as a club we certainly had some great results.
Most importantly, I would like to publicly acknowledge and congratulate our Bushflyer juniors who have been selected for the 2019 JWOC team: Caitlin Young, Patrick Miller and Noah Poland. (I understand that Patrick will not be accepting his nomination; however, he had outstanding results which merited his selection again this year). This is a wonderful achievement, and Caitlin and Noah now have a busy year to look forward to. They can be assured of the enthusiastic support of all of the Bushflyers club members. As usual, the ACT was particularly well represented in the JWOC team, with Ella Cuthbert and Tara Melhuish (both of Parawanga) also selected for the team. Caitlin has also been selected in the Australian Bushrangers team to travel to New Zealand on the first weekend of June for a test match against the NZ Pine Stars.
You will have noticed that Jane Barnett and Tom de Jongh have been appointed ACT Schools Team officials for the 2019 ASOC events in NSW, in conjunction with the Oceania Carnival. Orienteering ACT is very grateful to both Jane and Tom for taking on these important roles.
As we have done for several years now, Bushflyers were the organising club for last Saturday’s event at Weston Park, opening the Junior League season. Thank you to the small but very efficient team who presented the event. Particular thanks go to Toby Lang for his course-setting, which provided challenges to all participants even those who feel they know the area inside out! Brendan Wilson is now the Welcome Person, so he had a very busy job last Saturday morning with so many new and enthusiastic juniors turning up on a beautiful Autumn morning.
We are now looking forward to being a strongly represented club at the Teams event at Narrabundah Hill on Sunday, and then the following weekend at the two NSW events in the Cowra/Wyangala Dam region.
I remind you that we have a number of Bushflyers serving on the 2019 OACT Board: Peter Miller (Treasurer), Valerie Barker, Jane Barnett and David Stocks. The next OACT Council meeting will be held on Thursday 30th May. The Bushflyers Council representatives are Matt Stocks and Susanne Harryson. Please contact them if you have any concerns or issues that you would like taken to the Council meeting.
And finally, I shall be collecting the latest Bushies clothing order next weekend (at Cowra). If you have ordered items, thank you for your patient wait! I’ll distribute these as soon as possible. I continue to have a range of sizes in both running tops and jackets available for purchase. Please contact me if you are interested.
Enjoy all of your events.
