Ella Cuthbert demonstrated she is ready for her first Junior World Orienteering Championships with an outstanding run in ACT League event # 7 in Kowen Forest on Sunday. Her time of 33 min 49 sec for the 5.3 km Red 3 course was good enough for her to score the maximum 125 points in the 2019 ACT League competition. It was her second consecutive maximum points after having had the best kilometre rate on corrected times in the Jim Sawkins Memorial Handicap.

- 124: Matt Crane: Red 1: 8.1 km: 38 min 37 sec
- 123: David Stocks: Red 2: 7.1 km: 41 min 28 sec
- 122: Rebecca Minty: Red 2: 7.1 km: 46 min 23 sec
- 121: Grace Crane: Red 2: 7.1 km: 45 min 29 sec

Cuthbert and fellow JWOC team member Caitlin Young are about to fly out of Canberra to join fellow Cockatoos Tara Melhuish and Noah Poland in Denmark for the Championships which will be held around Aarhus and Silkeborg from 6 to 11 July. The 1999 World Masters Orienteering Championships and the 2006 World Orienteering Championships were in the same general area. WOC 2006 saw history created with Hanny Allston, as a junior, winning Australia’s first Gold Medal at a World Championships and then she teamed with Jo Allison and Grace Crane to finish fourth in the Relays, Australia’s best ever result at that level. The next ACT League event will be at Tidbinbilla on 21 July, for which the course planners are Bryant Allen and Nathan Guinness.
