Event Notes

During July-August 2021, Orienteering ACT, with the support of Sports Australia and Orienteering Australia, is running a series of eight MapRun only events. Each course will be open for one week (Mon to Sun), results will posted in Eventor, and there will be random prizes for regular participants. These will revisit some existing courses, with half northside and half southside, and with the option to start/finish at any control so that you can do a quite different course than one you may have done previously.

MAPRUN:

In order to participate in these events, you will need to use either the MapRun6 or older MapRunF app on your smartphone (android or IOS), or the MapRunG app on a suitable Garmin watch (which also needs the phone app to configure it). An introduction to installing and using the MapRun6 or MapRunF apps is provided on the MapRun Canberra “An Introduction to Using MapRun” page

After installing the app on your phone, please ensure you enter your full name, email, year of birth, postcode & club details in the Name section of the app. These should match what you use on Eventor, to help our results handlers match your results from the MapRun server to your Eventor identity.

To access this event you should:

First download and print the map PDF from the "ACT MapRun Street Series Details and Maps" page [https://sites.google.com/view/maprun-canberra/street-o?#h.t5gw9tcgsyva]

Then either open the maprun app and "Select Event" -> "ACT" -> "StreetO" -> "Chapman OACT MR4 Winter 2021 SA", or scan the QR code on the PDF map with your usual QR code scan app, and open the link with MapRun6, which will load the event into the app (provided you have the latest MapRun6).

When you are at your chosen start location, open the maprun app and "Go to Start". Then approach your chosen start control location, and when the app beeps, you've punched start and can continue around the course.

LOCATION:

Nominal start/finish at gate to playground by carpark at Chapman Oval off Tauchert St, Chapman.

If you choose to start at a control other than the nominal start S1/F1, then the chosen control becomes your start/finish control, and the original S1/F1 becomes a normal control that you can punch during the course.

DATE & TIME:

This course can be completed at any time from 26 July - 1 August.

ENTRY & RESULTS:

If you do not have a street orienteering Winter Series pass, please take out a free July-August MapRun Series pass at https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/16042 for insurance purposes and ACT Health Covid compliance, and to enable your results to be recorded for participation in a prize draw at the end of the July-August Series.

If you download a map and complete a course without using MapRun during the week for each event, this is permitted but you need to email your result (name, course, time taken, and number of checkpoints visited) to John Harding at jgh2009@gmail dot com.

SAFETY:

1. Please take care crossing all roads and bike paths. 2. Please take care crossing any areas with hazards such as fallen leaves on nature strips and gutters. 3. Please do not cross any watercourse except at bridges. 4. Please carry a face mask with you to put on if you enter any indoor area such as a public toilet or shopping centre. You are not currently required to wear a face mask outdoors in the ACT.
