Parking adjacent to the assembly is paid parking, $2.50 per hour.

COURSES:

Moderate 1 (5.1km), Moderate 2 (3.4km), Easy (2.5km), Very Easy (2.0km).

COURSE SETTER NOTES:

The National Arboretum consists of 100 rectangular and triangular blocks of planted trees, some of which are rare, endangered or otherwise significant trees. These blocks are mapped as white (bush), scattered trees and open depending on the growth of the trees. Three areas (Himalayan cedars and cork plantation to the north and a mature pine plantation to the south west) are mapped as white to bush standard. Other areas mapped as white merely represent the more developed of the block planting.

The blocks are bounded by a vegetation boundary symbol and linear gaps between the blocks (allees) are mapped as open with the width of the gaps large compared with the distance between trees. The allees have been used as linear features in planning the Easy and Very Easy courses. This may need to be explained to younger competitors before they start.

As trees in the Arboretum are precious, control sites have been selected so that no low or delicate branches are used. Please take care of young trees that may be encountered.

Forest Drive is a gazetted bitumen road and is used by cars and bikes extensively, particularly on weekends. The Arboretum administrators are concerned about visitor safety and do not want runners crossing Forest Drive while distracted by map reading. Consequently, they have not allowed controls to be placed within the loop contained by Forest Drive. It is important for safety reasons and to respect the wishes of the Arboretum that competitors do not cross Forest Drive, which is marked as out of bounds on the map. The courses have been designed to avoid route choices which cross the road.

There are numerous tracks in the Arboretum that may be used by all courses. Please respect the right of access of other Arboretum users. In particular watch out for mountain bikes and equestrians on narrow paths. It is a condition of Arboretum use that people on foot give way to equestrians.

Toilets are available in the Village Centre building. Please do not access with spikes. Access will not be permitted without a face mark.
