Canberra Cockatoos Emphasis on Juniors in Opening Rounds of National League

The ongoing successes of the Canberra Cockatoos in the National Orienteering League have been built on the junior development program and the Cockatoos are capitalising two years of success in the Australian Secondary Schools Championships (2017 team pictured above) to send a strong team of juniors to the opening rounds of the 2018 National Orienteering League in Melbourne this weekend. Siblings have also been important to the teams’ successes and this year’s junior team has the Melhuish sisters, Tara and Zoe and the Miller brothers, Patrick and Tristan.  (All juniors, including Robin Mennet (top right) are pictured below)

Most members of both the senior and junior teams will using the events to press for selection in the World Championships in Latvia in August and the World Juniors in July.

Both the senior teams will be seeking to defend the titles they won in 2017, with the men going for their eighth-straight title.
